Aim

To see if personality traits (psychotisim,extraversion and self esteem) affected delinquency

Hypothesis

Measures of extraversion psychotisim and self esteem will be significant predictors for reported delinquency

Method

Longitudinal study over 2 years

Sample

282 teenagers from Australia

Material

- eysenck's personality questionnaire


- 10 Item questionnaire to measure self esteem


- questionnaire to measure self reported delinquency

Procedure

- 1 questionnaire was completed at time 1


- 2 years later 80% returned and completed the questionnaire at time 2

Results

- boys were more likely to engage in delinquency


- positive correlation between psychotisim and delinquency in time 1 and 2

Conclusion

Psychotisim is associated significantly with self report delinquency

Criticisms

- age bias


- cultural bias


- not reliable because participants may have given social desirable answers
