What does a cardiac cycle include?
Inclusive period of time from the start of one heartbeat to the initiation of the next.
What is the contraction of a heart chamber called?

During systole, the myocardium forces blood where?
Either into another chamber (atrium to ventricle) or into a blood vessel (from a ventricle into the attached larger artery)
The relaxation phase of a heart chamber is termed what?
diastole, during this period the myocardium of each chamber relaxes between contraciton phases and the chamber fills with blood.

occurs when the atria attempt to beat at a rate of 200 to 400 times per minute, conseq bombards teh AV node with muscle impulses leads to atrial fibrillation
How does atrial fibrulation differ from atrial flutter?
Muscle impulses are significantly more chaotic, leading to an irregular heart rate. (The atria doesn't beat)
What are PVC's?
Premature ventricular contractions: often result from stress, stimulants such as caffeine, or sleep deprivation. They occur
What is the most serious arrhythmia?
Vfib
What happens in Vfib?
Can't pump blood out of heart--flat lining occurs (difibrulators needed) stop heart, the hope is SA node picks up signal to reset SA node.
What can Vfib lead to?
Cardiac arrest
What is Vfib?
a rapid, repetitious movement of the ventricular muscle that replaces normal contraction.
What is cardiac arrest?
Because the contractions of a heart in fib are uncoordinated, the heart does no pump blood, and blood circulation stops. the cessation of cardiac activity.
What is bradycardia?
an atypically slow heartbeat of less than 50 bpm
What is a beneficial adaption resulting from a muscular heart, heathy circulatory system, and excellent lung capacity?
athlete's bradycardia.
