The Outer Ear
pinna - collects sound waves
external ear flap - collects sound
auditory canal - carries sound to ear drum
Middle Ear
Tympanic Membrane - receives sounds vibrations (called ear drum).
Ossicles - 3 bones: malleus, incus, stapes - amplifies and carry sound.
Oval Window - receives vibrations from Ossicles and pushed inwards.
Eustachian Tube - connects middle ear to mouth and nose; air pressure equalization and drainage of fluid.
Inner Ear
Cochlea - snail shaped structure; responds to sound waves converts into nerve impulses.
Vestibule - balance and head movement (static equilibrium).
Semicircular Canals - balance and body movement.
Round window - pressure release (tiny spot on the Vestibule).
