What is self assessed health status? |
Self assessed health status reflects a persons perception of their own health and well-being at a given point in time. |

What is Mortality and Morbidity? |
Mortality = deaths, particularly at a group or population level. Morbidity = Ill health in an individual/population |

Burden of disease is measure by DALY: one DALY = one year of healthy life lost due to disease or disability. |

S.e.s refers to a persons position in society relative to other people based on three factors: income, occupation, and education. |

What is BMI? |
Body mass index = weight (kg) divided by height (m2). It gives a ratio of these two measurements. |

What are some environmental factors that affect health status? |
Housing (ventilation and sleeping conditions), geographical location (where are resources in relation to you), climate and climate change |

How does smoking affect health status in Australia? |
It increases chances of cardiovascular disease, cancers, low birth weight, respiratory conditions, and infections. |

How does high BMI affect health status? |
It can increase cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, kidney disease, asthma, and arthritis. |

How does alcohol affect health status? |
increases chances of cancers of the throat and mouth, reduces your resistance to infection, increases weight gain and obesity, heart failure. |

How does poor diet affect health status? |
A poor diet, with underconsumption of fruits and vegetables, can reduce chances of poor immune system function, cancer, cardiovascular disease and neural tube defects. |

What are dairy foods and why are they important? |
Daley refers to milk, cheese and yoghurt made from animal milk. Dairy provides calcium, which keeps our teeth and bones strong. It reduces cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and dental decay. |
