What is the Regulated Health Profession Act (RHPA)? |
Sets scope of practice (What you can do in your job). Regulates professions with "Colleges" (so they can protect the public by making sure workers have proper qualifications) Colleges investigate complaints and give disciplinary action. |

Overview of RHPA |
Came into effect in October 1999 The purpose is to regulate the standard care for 26 health care professions in Ontario through regulatory 'colleges'. The RHPA does not govern the practices of traditional healers or Aboriginal midwives |

What does the RHPA do? |
1) What you can do based on your training 2) It outlines the structure of the 'regulatory colleges' 3) It outlines how complaints are dealt with by the colleges. 4) It reviews decisions made by colleges and offers appeals of registration decisions. 5) It offers advice and guidance to the ministry of health |

Complaints Committee, Fitness to practice committee, the executive committee, the quality assurance committee and the discipline committee |

Keeping a patients information private It is against the law to breach confidentiality The only exception is if you suspect child abuse, then you MUST report it. Also Mentally disabled, elder abuse, criminal. |

What are some approaches to Treatment? |
Conventional Medical treatment. Focuses on diagnosis and treatment of disease. Attention to prevention. Non conventional (Alternative), many believe good health is a personal responsibility. Alternative therapies are important for prevention of treatment of diseases. |
