The types of equipment firefighters use?

Why standard tests are carried out and where they are recorded.

They are carried out to ensure equipment is kept in a good state of repair, to ensure the equipment performs correctly and any faults are identified.


The tests are recorded on form 426 (standard test card)


Only one card is used per specific item of equipment being used.

What procedure is to be followed when an item of equipment is found to be defective?

Remove the item from service and highlight the defect to an officer in charge or incident commander as soon as possible.


Defect to be put into poms system. Once reported the item will be contracted to be replaced within a set time scale.


Some stations will record items sent away in an “items away” book or on a white board in the watch room for quick reference.

To ensure that every person who uses equipment is trained for their uses and purposes.

Cranes and hoists in building sites used to lower staff down shafts or to assist in removing casualties from shafts or off site.
