Faces of the Harlem Renaissance

The most interesting people to me during Harlem was Aaron Douglas, Eubie Blake, William Still.

Aaron Douglas, moved to Harlem from his home state Kansas after hearing the creative output of black artists

Eubie Black was a when known black musician in Harlem. He was a jazz style musician who began playing in bars and saloons.

William Still, they called him a man with many talents. William Grant Still decided to have a different career in music instead of the medical field. But what he was best known for was composing.

A place called Harlem

Harlem was located in New York City, in northern Manhattan.

1. YMCA in Harlem was a very major cultural place the provided services and resources to Harlem black residents.

2. Small's Paradise, was a Harlem nightclub. Know for its energizing jazz and rollerskating waiters, Smalls was a very popular club in Harlem. Also known for its mixed race clientele.

3. The Dark Tower, was a large electrifying nightclub with great jazz and blues performances. Owned by A'Lelia Walker, it was the most popular nightclub in Harlem. What I thought was very interesting was that Walker severed your white guest pig feet. While serving black guest more appetizing food in more of a pleasant room.

Themes and Variations

The themes I think that are interesting during the Harlem Renaissance are, Lindy Hop in Harlem: the Role of Social Dancing, Black Writers Tell It on the Mountain, and Shuffle Along: The Musical at the Center of the Harlem Renaissance.

1. Liny Hop in Harlem: What was interesting about this article is how things were very though for many African American people. With landlords making renting homes are impossible with the little buy they have. But the only thing that made the people happy was dancing in Harlem. With the Dancer Liny Hop, they were called the Afro-Euro-American Swing dance.

2. Black Writers- Writing was a very large part of Harlem. Short poetry, stories, and novels were one many famous writings. A large writing group was formed soon called "The Negro and the Racial Mountain".

3. Shuffle Along- During the Harlem Renaissance, African American musical performers made theater history. Shuffle Along a great musical theater had 504 performances in it life at the Cort Theater.
