What are the different invertions for different tubes?
All tubes must be inverted 8-10 times except for 3 tubes. Light blue tube (sodium citrate) inverted 3-4 times, Gold & Red tubes must be inverted 5-6 times (red glass tube 0 times)
Which tubes need a FULL DRAW?
4 tubes need a full draw. Light blue, Lavender, light gray and black.
What is the oder of draw for multiple collection and their colors?
1. Blood Culture (Glass bottles, light yellow (sps) and yellow with black top (broth mixture)
2. Co-agulation tube, Light blue (sodium citrate)- unless there is tissue contamination concerns (throboplastin)if so red tube first.
3. Non-additive tubes, red
4. Additive tubes (in this order)
a)SST (Gold/Red-gray)
b)Sodium Heparin (dark green/light brown)
c)PST (light green)
d)EDTA (Lavender/Pink/Dark blue)
e)ACD A/B (Yellow)
