What are the different invertions for different tubes?

All tubes must be inverted 8-10 times except for 3 tubes. Light blue tube (sodium citrate) inverted 3-4 times, Gold & Red tubes must be inverted 5-6 times (red glass tube 0 times)

4 tubes need a full draw. Light blue, Lavender, light gray and black.

1. Blood Culture (Glass bottles, light yellow (sps) and yellow with black top (broth mixture)
2. Co-agulation tube, Light blue (sodium citrate)- unless there is tissue contamination concerns (throboplastin)if so red tube first. 3. Non-additive tubes, red 4. Additive tubes (in this order) a)SST (Gold/Red-gray) b)Sodium Heparin (dark green/light brown) c)PST (light green) d)EDTA (Lavender/Pink/Dark blue) e)ACD A/B (Yellow) f)sodium fluride/potasium oxalate (light gray) ORANGE tubes are used for stat chemistries and are usually required during emergancies. |
