This is a type of government in which voters choose delegates to create the laws of government on their behalf. A common term that may be used to describe it is "representative". This is the most common type of democratic system in the world.

(Indirect) Democracy

A state or nation in which the supreme power is actually or nominally lodged in a king. An absolute king has unlimited power. This is an old form of government, and the word has been around a long time. It derives from Greek monarkhos.

Monarchy

A state in which the supreme power rests in the body of citizens entitled to vote and is exercised by representatives chosen directly or indirectly by them.

Republic

The political direction and control exercised over the actions of the members, citizens, or inhabitants of communities, societies, and states; direction of the affairs of a state, community, etc.; political administration.
