-what happend to the american dream ?

F .SCOTT Fitzgerald in his famous novel great Gatsby published in 1925 depicts American society during the roar twentieth after the world war one .a period, in which the American economy soared, bringing extraordinary levels of wealth and material excess to the nation which according to Fitzgerald distorted the concept of the American dream what is used to be pure and honest ideal way to live now materials take over as central need which causes big damage to social and moral values embodied in The Great Gatsby by the extravagant parties that Gatsby throws every Saturday night and the immoral behaviors’ of characters such as greed ,deceit , and empty pursuit of pleasure Fitzgerald strongly criticized this warped version of American dream In this essay I will discuss how the theme of American dreams is conveyed in great Gatsby

How the warped version of the american dream is conveyed through the character jay gatsby ?

First the warped version of the American dream is conveyed through the character jay Gatsby himself the protagonist of the novel a man who has an extraordinary gift of hope who goes from poverty to extreme richness by illegal activities and all that money he acquires and the mansion he purchases and extravagant parties he throws are about only one thing which is impressing daisy Buchanan and gain her back because he believes that’s the key for achieving his romantic dream but at the end it turns out a fatal tragedy this clearly represents the wrong belief that dominated society at that time that money and wealth can bring happiness tragedy Gatsby’s dream ruined by the unworthiness of its object just as the American dream in the 1920 s is corrupted by the unworthiness of its object—money and pleasure And the dream of love that remains at Gatsby's core condemns nearly every other character in the novel, all of whom are empty beyond just their lust for money.

How the The twisted notion of American dream is represented in the disgusting display of materialism ?

The twisted notion of American dream is represented in the disgusting display of materialism for example when Gatsby gets daisy over to his house he is so overwhelmed by her presence he start showing her his fancy mansion when they get to his bedroom he through piles of expensive shirts on daisy and she begins to cry and says they are the most beautiful shirts she has ever seen this shows how the American dream changed from living a happy life to crying over obtaining the most expensive and exotic items.

How the symbol of the green light convey the american dream ?

The American dream is also conveyed through symbol OF THE GREEN LIGHT When Gatsby is first seen he stretches out his arms toward the green light across the bay at the end of daisy’s dock Gatsby just want to cross the bay and get to that green light because he believe if he can he would have the girl that driven his wild ambitions so this green light represents his hope of the future when he realize this and meet with his idealized girl he is still not satisfied he wants her to tell her husband tom that she never loved him which makes him encounters huge problems and conflicts ended with his death this convey the notion of not getting enough and the dream would never be fulfilled when accomplish something we would be hungry for another goal and we don’t give values to things we already have.

Conclusion

As a conclusion we infer that Fitzgerald wants to give the readers a picture on the American dream during the roar twentieth a period centered on material items emergence of selfishness people in this society live in a pretended world of luxury and beauty but in reality the American dream is just warped illusion
