Meaning: “as soon as” ・”the moment”




Notes:・a conjunction indicating that as soon as something happens, something else happens


   ・main clause must be past tense and therefore cannot indicate a future action


   ・no volition or commands


   ・NO first person. EVER!


   ・Subjects can be different


   ・Cannot be used for spontaneous, subconscious actions


   ・written only

Meaning: “as soon as”・”no sooner than”




Notes: ・always preceded by nonpast verb and main clause must be in the past tense

    ・unlike 「とたん」 the events do not occur exactly at the same time


   ・1st person is allowed with spontaneous actions


   ・急に、突然、一斉に、〜し始めた


   ・written only


   ・emphasis is on S2

Notes: ・This expression means "ever since ~", and is appended to the V て form to indicate that a behavior, perception, or situation has undergone a major change as the result of a certain occurence. It conveys surprise, admiration, or similar feelings regarding the change.
