Nouns
A person, place, thing, or idea. Example: freedom (a thing)
Verbs
Helps show action, the state of being or possession. Example: have
Pronouns
Takes the place of the noun so that you don't need to use the noun so much. Example sentence: I want a piece of pie. (The I is the pronoun)
Adjectives
Things that describe nouns or pronouns.
*Adjectives answer the questions: 'how many', 'how much', 'which one' and 'what kind'
Adverbs
Things that describe verbs, adjectives and other adverbs
*Adverbs answer the questions: 'how', 'when', 'where' and 'to what extent'
Prepositions
Links nouns and pronouns to other parts of the sentence.

Shows some kind of emotion.

Lay vs Lie
Lay is when you lay something ONTO an object.
Lie is when you lie DOWN on something
Example:
1) I lay the book on the table.
2) I want to lie down on the bed.
Affect vs Effect
Affect is the verb while Effect is the noun.
Example:
1) The affect of the weather gave me a cold.
2) The weather had a great effect on me.
Who vs Whom
Use who when the answer has a 'he', 'she' or 'they'. Use whom when the answer has a 'him', 'her' or 'them'
Passive voice
Passive voice is when you change the object of the sentence into the subject.
Example:
Active voice = Emily peed into the toilet.
Passive voice = The toilet was peed into by Emily
