Bill

A proposed law or piece of legislasion put before a Canadian legislature for approval. A bill must pass all readings before it can be royal assent.

Convention

Any agreement between Canada and another state relating to tax or income.

Mace

A representation of the authority of the monarch and their power in the HoC. Originally a weapon.

Royal Assent

The final stage of the legislature process the process in which a bill passed by parliament and becomes law.

Majority Government

Government that is formed by a governing party that has majority of overall seats in the parliament.

Minority Government

Formed in a parliamentary system when a political party or coalition of parties doesn't have a majority of overall seats in the parliament.

Official opposition

The party posessing the second highest number of seats in the HoC or a legislasive assembly and not a part of coalition of parties forming the government.

Riding

An administrative division or electoral division in Canada.

Seat

Seats are held for representatives in the HoC who are allowed to discuss and decide on decisions potentially being made. They also represent their province.

Constituent

A citizen who is represent in a government by officials for whom they vote.
