Authoritarian

A type of government that controls all aspects of citizens economic, political, and social lives.

Confederate

A government that is made of a loose union or independent and sovereign states with a weak central system.

Democracy

The people hold the power to rule. The people meet to make all the decisions.

Dictatorship

One person holds all the power (dictator), this person is usually backed by the military.

Federal

A system of government in which the national and state governments share power and laws vary between the national and states government.

Monarchy

A government with a king or queen, two types: absolute & constitutional.

Absolute Monarchy

Monarch has complete absolute power among his or her people. Wields unrestricted political power over the sovereign state and its people.

Constitutional Monarchy

Power of the monarch is restrained by a parliament, by law, or by custom.

Oligarchy

A type of government in which power is concentrated in the hands of a few people. Their power tends to come from wealth, social position, or military power.

Republic

A government where citizens rule through elected representatives.

Unitary

A government in which all key powers lie with the central government and state and local governments powers derive from central government.

Representative Democracy

A type of government in which the people elect representatives to make laws.
