Government

It is a system by which a state or community is controlled, and is where public policy is made.

Democracy

It is a system of government by the whole population or all eligible members of a state. Iris where the people have power.

Demos = people


Kractic = power

Direct Democracy

It is where the people decide/vote on policy initiatives directly.

Indirect Democracy and Republic

It is a form of government where the citizens elect representatives to make public policy on their behalf.

Federalism

It is where the central and sub national governments share the power (not necessarily equal), and the sub national governments get power from the constitution.

Confederation

It is where the states come together under a central government, but the states have the majority of the power.

Unitary Government

It is where the central government has supreme power and the sub national governments only get power from the central government, not from a constitution. (This power can be taken away by the central government.)
