What is ordnance?
A term covering all weapons, weapons system components, and support equipment.
What is a gun?
A tube, closed at one end, from which a projectile is ejected at high speed by the gases produced from rapidly burning propellants.
What is a gun mount?
Consists of all the machinery used to position, load, and fire a gun.
What is included in positioning equipment?
All the machinery used to support and move the gun tube to the desired train (horizontal) and elevation (vertical) angle.
What is the stand in positioning equipment?
A steel ring bolted to the deck that serves as a foundation and rotating surface for movement in train.
What is contained in the stand?
Both the train bearings and the training circle.
What is the training circle?
A stationary internal gear that the drive pinion "walks around" to move the gun in train.
What is the base ring, also called the lower carriage?
The rotating platform, supported by the stand, that supports the upper carriage.
What is the gun carriage, also called the upper carriage?
A massive pair of brackets that holds the trunnion bearings.
