Human Rights

Many organizations based on human rights from the UN but the commission on human rights studies human rights around the world and helps countries to make laws and protect people. Work is done mostly at the Center For Human Rights in Geneva, Switzerland.

The Universal Declaration Of Human Rights

30 main points the UN created that apply to everyone in the world. Live in freedom and safety, basic needs (food, shelter, water, and clothing), education, follow beliefs, treated fairly & equally by law, take part in government, move within countries, express opinion.

United Nations

An organization established on Oct 24, 1945 to promote international cooperation. The symbol is the world shown from the top with olive branches to represent peace. The UN headquarters are in New York City. The UN is like a club of countries, when a country joins they must try to reach these goals - basic human rights for people are restored, help different cultures understand each other, work to solve global problems, and follow these rules - treat equally, work to goals, no fighting/bullying, help things happen once club agrees to something. Don't interfere with club members about private matters.

UNICEF

A organization that helps protect world children rights. Projects depend on the people in need. In a community people with work together with a UNICEF worker to discuss the rights children need. Or in another community people will use UNICEF equipment to stop pollution in a stream to make a a safe water supply. When there is a emergency like a flood, war or famines, UNICEF will supply some basic needs for the people such as blankets and food.

Environment

The physical world we live in. The air, land , water, our homes and resources we live on.

Government

A group of high powered people who make laws and help citizens meet their needs and wants, daily throughout their lives.

Global Village

Our interconnected modernized community. Everyone is connected together with communication and technology. There are pro's which are health, education, world aid etc. Con's such as pollution, poverty, inequality.

Culture

Your way of life . The way you live in the world. The food, religion etc. There are many diverse cultures all around the world.

Technology

Since the 20th century technology has stepped up. In the global village we use technology to connect and make things more efficient. Television, air planes, and the internet are examples of technology that impacts our lives as global citizens.

Economic System

Ways countries exchange from natural and human-made resources we need and want. Larger company chains spread around the world creating us connected in everything we have, making many places the same in different countries.

Rights of a child

A paper that shows children's needs and how every child needs them met. If a country signs the Convention on the Rights of a Child, it's a promise to give all children the rights on the document.


Right to Survive - (basic needs, medical service)


Right to live & enjoy life - (education, protection from slavery, practice your culture)


Live in a safe world - (not used as soldiers or hostages, clean environment)


Right to be heard - (take action to change things for better, a name and nationality to be a citizen legally to that country)

Responsibilities of a Global Citizen

Curiosity - Have an open mind and listen to new ideas and never be afraid to express what you know & always be aware of the events happening in other countries.


Common sense - Don't believe everything you hear about other countries, religions, or people
