fibrillary astrocytoma
Usually younger patients 20-40
slow growing, non aggressive behavior.
On CT, or hypodense with little or no enhancement
on MR, hypointense on T1 and hyperintense on T2 and show little enhancement.
Grade 3 tumors
anaplastic astrocytoma.
Grade 4 tumors
Glioblastoma multiforme
Usually patients older than 40
Necrosis, hemorrhage and neovascularity common
On CT are heterogenous
On MR are iso to hypointense on T2 and hyperintense on T2. Ring like pattern on post contrast may be seen.
Gliomatosis cerebri
Widespread infiltration of neoplastic cells
At least three lobes of brain are involved.
Two appearances: diffuse involvement of gthe cerebral white matter without a mass OR one with a discrete mass.
Often appears isodense on CT
Oligodendroglioma
Mostly supratentorial and located in frontal lobe.
Grows slowly and shows calcification in 100% of cases.
May extend to the cortex and erode the calvarium.
Relative absence of edema.
Variations include oligoastroctyoma and anaplastic oligodendroglioma.
Calcified Glial tumors
Old Elephants Age Gracefully (order of frequency)
Oligodendroglioma
Ependymoma
Astrocytoma
Glioblastoma multiforme.
