“‘Either there exists mind or there exists bodies’(but not both) would be like saying ‘either she bought a left handed glove or a right handed glove ‘but not both’”

Ghost in the machine

•Ryle used the term ghost in the machine to describe descartes concept of the mind

- meaning we see just matter operated by some invisible mind.

Category error

Mistakenly treating something as being of one type when it is of a different sort.

Eg - category error to treat a rhinoceros as a type of butterfly.

Descartes is guilty of category error because he assumes sentences about causes, sensations or events must either be mental or physical but not both.
