The Church

Germany was a religious country - almost 30 per cent of the people belonging to the Catholic Church and 60 per cent to the Protestant Church. The Nazis were opposed to the Christian Church and thought it was a threat to Nazi power

The Church

The Catholic Church and Hitler signed an agreement ( the Concordat ) - the Catholic Church would not interfere in politics and the Nazis would leave the Catholic Church alone

The Church

The Protestant Church was brought under Nazi control. The 'Reich Church' was set up and pastors had to swear loyalty to Hitler. Those who objected to this Nazi interference joined the 'Confessional Church' which was set up outside of Nazi control.
