Hypothesis

The if part of a statement.

If anything multiplied by 0 is 0, then 8 multiplied by 0 equals 0.

Conclusion

The then part of the sentence.

If anything multiplied by 0 is 0, then 8 multiplied by 0 equals 0.

Conditional

A logical statement that has two parts, a hypothesis and a conclusion.

If anything multiplied by 0 is 0, then 8 multiplied by 0 equals 0.

Converse

Switches the hypothesis and conclusion.

If 8 times 0 is 0, then anything times 0 is 0.

Inverse

Negates the hypothesis and conclusion.

If anything times 0 isn't 0, then 8 times 0 isn't 0.

Contrapositive

Negates the converse.

If 8 times 0 is not 0, then anything times 0 is not 0.

Biconditional

Contains the phrase "if and only if."

If and only if you multiply something by 0, then it the answer will be 0.

Law of Detatchement

If the hypothesis of a true conditional statement is true, then the conclusion is also true.

AB= CD so CD=AB

Law of Syllagism

If sentence one and two are true then three is as well.

1.If hypothesis p, then conclusion q.

2.If hypothesis q, then conclusion r.

3.If hypothesis p, then conclusion r.

Postulate 1

Through any two points exists exactly one line.

If you have two points, you will have one line.

Postulate 2

A line contains at least two points.

One line contains two or more points.

Postulate 3

If two lines intersect, there intersection makes one point.

Line AB and line DC intersect to make point E.

Postulate 4

Through any three non-collinear points there is exactly one plane.

Point A, Point B, and Point C make a plane.

Postulate 5

A plane contains at least three non-collinear points.

Point A, Point B, and Point C make a plane.

Postulate 6

If two points line in a plane, then the line they make lies in a plane.

Points A and B are in a plane, so line AB is in a plane.

Postulate 7

If two planes intersect, then there intersection makes a line.

If plane ABC intersects line DEF then it would make line FC.

Addition Property

If a=b, then a+c=c+b

Subtraction Property

if a=b, then a-c=b-c

Multiplication Property

if a=b, then ac=bc

Division Property

if a=b and c is not equal to zero, then a/c=b/c

Substitution Property

If a=b, then a can be substituted for b in any equation or expression.
