Reflection |
A flip over a line called the line of reflection. Each point and its image are the same distance from the line of reflection. |
Transformation |
An operation that maps an original figure called the preimage onto a new figure called the image. A transformation can change the size, shape, or position of a figure. |
Translation |
To vertically and/or horizontally slide a figure. |
Rotation |
A turn around a fixed point called the center of rotation. The figure rotates at a specific angle and direction. |
Dilation |
The enlargement or reduction of a figure. |
Line Symmetry |
The figure can be mapped onto itself by a reflection in a line. |
Point of Symmetry |
The figure is mapped onto itself by rotating the figure 180° about a center point. |
Rotational symmetry |
The figure is mapped onto itself by rotating the figure less than 360° about a center point. |
Line of Symmetry |
A line that can be drawn through a plane figure so that the figure on one side is the reflection image of the figure on the opposite side. |
Scale Factor |
Indicates how much the figure will enlarge or reduce. |
Prime |
First transformation of a figure. |
Double prime |
The second transformation of a figure. |
Pre-image |
The original figure prior to a transformation. |
Image |
A figure after a transformation. |
