Political Maps |
These are maps in an atlas (or on a world map orglobe) that show different political regions and their borders in differentcolours. |

These show the movement of things liketraffic, trade and people (migration). Usually different sized lines are usedto show amount or volume. |

Physical Maps |
These maps show thephysical landforms of a region, including patterns of mountain ranges, riversand other physical features. Variations of colour and shading are used to showheight. |

Choropleth Maps |
Theuse dark and light shades of the same colour to show a pattern. The darkershades show ‘the most’ and the lighter shades show ‘the least’. |

Tourist Maps |
Tourist maps These maps show settlements, tourist attractions, roaddistances, street names and often accommodation and service stations. |

Mud Maps |
These are rough mapsoften drawn quickly to explain how to find a particular feature. They are oftensketched on a piece of paper and do not show correct scale. |

Satellite Images |
These are not strictly maps, but they serve the samepurpose. False colours are used to highlight particular features on the imagesrelated to the Earth from satellites. |

Synoptic Charts |
Showthe movement of weather systems. They show patterns of temperature, rainfalland wind. They are also used to predict rainfall and temperature for the nearfuture. |
