What is the Continental Divide?
An imaginary line that goes north and south along the highest points on the Rocky Mountains with rivers going east and west.
What is a Time Zone?
Region where people use the same clock time. 25 zones on earth. U.S. has 6 zones: Eastern, Central, Mountain, Pacific, and Alaska time zone, Hawaii/ Aleutian time zone.
What is a timberline?
On a mountain where the elevation above which the temperatures are too low for trees to grow.
What is barrier?
Something that blocks the way and makes it hard to move from place to place such as the Rockies were a barrier to westward travel because they were steep and covered with snow.
What is the transcontinental Railroad?
A railroad that crossed the American continent from the Atlantic to the Pacific. Started in 1857 and allowed people to have transportation across the U.S.
What is Hydroelectricity?
Electricity produced by water power.
Grand Coulee Dam in Washington produces the most electricity.
