What is Globalization?
The growing interconnectedness of people and places through converging processes of economical, political, and cultural change.
What is a region?
Areas of the earths surface marked by certain properties. Based on criteria we establish, such as human cultural properties, physical natural characteristics. All regions have an area, boundaries, location, and homogeneity.
Why is Geography important today?
It studies human activity, the natural environment, and the relationship between the two. Also the location and distribution of features on the earths surface.
What information do maps convey?
Shows domains, drug routes, income, population, language, religion, colonial possessions, GNI, and anything you want them to.
Australia: Area and land.
Is isolated from all other continents except Asia. It is an old, flat, hot, dry land. 70% of land area is desert, no active volcanism, highly weathered soils.
Flora and Fauna
Flora is Australia's unique flowers and plants.

Fauna is Australia's animals which are not hoofed.
British penal colony
January 26th, 1788. - Celebrated as Australia day.
Freed convicts and settlers cleared land or farms.
Wealth grew upon primary industries: wheat, sheep, cattle.
Gold rush in 1850's brought wealth and immigration.
Independent states were established before nationhood in 1901

Vast desert interior, Tropical top end, mild climate in SE and SW.

White Australian Policy.
Racist, Non-white migrations to the country were strictly limited by what is often termed a White Australian Policy, in which governmental guidelines promoted European and North American immigration at the expense of other groups. This remained a national policy until 1973.
Stolen Generation
Aboriginal children stolen taken from parents. Practiced from 1869 to about 1970. Justified as civilizing aborigines.
Eliminates the full-blood and permit white admixture to half-castes and eventually will become white.

Australia New Zealand Army Corps. In WW1 1914-1918, crucible of Australia's identity. Independent from Britain. ANZAC Day April 25th, 1915. Australia's most celebrated day.
