The Intermountain Region is the desert region of the United States. Farming is difficult due to the lack of adequate rainfall and the extreme summer heat.

Why is farming easier to do in the South than in the North?
|
The north has short growing seasons, long harsh winters and rocky soil. The south has fertile soil and mild winters.

What is the major difference between the Appalachian Mountians and the Rocky Mountians?
|
Both mountain ranges are geographical barriers. However, the Appalachian Mountains are rounded and are shorter. The Rocky Mountains are jagged and more sloped.
