Name 3 local issues

Rainwater capture, food scraps ban, car and bike sharing

List benefits and disadvantages of car and bike sharing

Benefits:

Saves money, not in charge of car maintenance, environmentally friendly decreasing a mount of cars on road. East to use bike app convienent to pay, job growth

Disadvantages: might not always be able to find vehicles, hard to get to vehicles of you live out of the way, bikes or cars getting stolen, won't be available all the time (reliability)

List 4 reasons the CRD want to implement a good scraps ban?

1. Promoting sustainable waste managment

2.educate and inform public about waste alternatives.

3. 30%of Harland landfill is foodscraps and organic matter

4. CRD banned foodscraps in landfilcto extent landfill lifespan

List the benefits and disadvantages of the food scraps ban.

Benefits: most residents were prepared for ban, acessable backyard composting, strong support. From community

Disadvantages: smell in cobble hill recycling center

What are some ways for people to capture rainwater

Green roof, infiltration chamber(gutter into ground filtered and into surrounding soil excess to municipality), rain gardens, permeable paving, rain barrel cisterns, and bioswales

List some benefits and disavantages of rainwater collection

Disadvantages: Disrupts natural flow, apply-install-(maybe get rebate), expensive to construct,

Benefits: water used for gardens, or goes back into the soil instead of the ocean.

Name 3 legally endangered species and why they are endangered

American white pelican,(disruption of breeding sites by human or industrial factors)

burrowing owl, (live in grasslands those are prime for human development)

Vancouver island Margot(not enough high elevation treeless habitat)

Define "protected bike lane"

Provide a sence of comfort and saftry, especially to novice cyclists. These lanes will be located in the rosdwaycbut separated from pedestrian sidewalks and vehicle roadways, and will have a barrier separating them from on street traffic.

Define neighborhood greenways

Neighborhood greenways are areas with lower levels of road traffic and speed limits around 30km. On roads such as these cyclists band vehicle usually coexist with little difficulty. Roads like these require little or no improvement
