Grid system

It is a network of lines that helps in pinpointing the location of a place on a map. Usually the grid is formed by lines of latitude and longitude. They are numbered in the grid.

Contours

Contours are imaginary lines joining places having equal heights above the sea level.

Topographical map

Topographical map is a multipurpose large scale map which shows a small area. It shows us the natural features such as relief Vegetation drainage streams sandy area etc it also depicts man made features such s ,canals, mines , roads railways settlements etc

Scale

A scale is a ratio of distance between any two points on a map to the corresponding distance between the same two points on the actual ground.

Statement scale

This is the most simple, direct and comvinient method of expression in scale. In this method scale is expressed in words.

Graphical or linear scale

This scale is represented on a line in which different divisions are numbered in cms and kms. According to the statement which is used to measure the distance between two points of the map the major divisions are primary divisions and minor divisions are secondary divisions.

RD scale or universally accepted scale

The scale expressed the proportion of the scale by a fraction in which the numerator is one and the denominator is also the same unit of length. The unit may be in inches or cms or any other foreign unit.

Contours interval

The CI or vertical interval is the difference in height between two consecutive contour lines.

Form lines

Broken contour lines joining places with same height above the sea level . They represent only the general pattern of the ground and give no idea about definite heights

Motorable in dry season

Motorable in dry season refers to cart track. These roads are open to traffic from October to may. from June to September, These roads are flooded with water so traffic cannot move. They are closed . This feature indicates that the area gets seasonal or scanty rainfall.

Causeways

Causeway are raised platform across the dry stream. During the dry season when the streams dry up , people make a habit of crossing it. This a doorway is formed . Presence of many causeway across the metalled road shows that the area gets seasonal or scanty rainfall. It also indicates that such streams are likely to be flooded in the rainy season.

Confluence of the river

Confluence means the point where two rivers join.
