What's in the forebrain? |
longitudinal fissure Central sulcus Lateral fissure Frontal lobe (speech/motor areas) Temporal lobe Parietal lobe (primary sensory area) Occipital lobe |
List 7 and the 2 subgroups of one term and 1 subgroup of another term |
What is in the Hindbrain? |
Pons Cerebellum Medulla Oblongata |
3 terms |
Longitudinal fissure |
Separated right and left hemispheres. |
Central sulcus |
Runs from vertex of the hemisphere downward and forward about midway between the front and rear poles of the hemisphere. |
Lateral fissure |
Runs backward and slightly upward, appears as a deep groove between the temporal and parietal lobes. |
Frontal love |
Function: planning ahead, prediction, and programming for an individual's needs. Lower portion: Speech Area- articulation of speech Right in front of the central sulcus: motor area- controls discrete movements of the body |
Temporal lobe |
Top part: sense of hearing Inner surface: memory processing Other: integration of multiple density functions such as auditory, visual, and touch |
Parietal lobe |
Primary sensory area: nerve impulses related to the sensations of pain, temperature, touch, and pressure |
Occipital lobe |
Processes the visual information |
Medulla oblongata |
2.5 centimeter region Controls respiration and heart rate |
You might study this part of the brain in the future! |
Pons |
Serves as the relay between the cerebral hemispheres and the cerebellum |
Cerebellum |
Muscle coordination and balance involved actions |
Limbic lobe |
Involved with sexual and emotional aspects of behavior and with the processing of memory |
Basil ganglia |
Programming and execution of movement (motor activity) |
Thalamus |
Sensory gateway to the cerebral hemispheres including all senses except for smell |
Hypothalamus |
Controls the visceral nervous system which stimulates contraction of muscle fibers and glandular secretions in the internal organs. Regulates appetite, thirst, temperature and controls hormonal secretions from pituitary gland (many of endocrine glands in the body) |
Pineal gland |
Biological clock. Regulates body rhythms and sexual activity |
Midbrain |
Controls automatic (reflex) patterns associative for with visual and auditory systems |
Spinal cord |
Ascending pathway (sensation-related) Descending pathway (movement-related) |
