What are square numbers?
|
A square number is any number multiplied by itself. An example is 12² which is 12 x 12 = 144.

What are cube numbers?
|
Cube numbers are numbers which are multiplied by themselves three times. An example is 3³ which is 3 x 3 x 3 = 27.

What does BIDMAS (or BODMAS) stand for?
|
BIDMAS stands for Brackets ( ), Indices ² or ³, Division ÷, Multiplication x, Addition +, Subtraction -. (Note: Sometimes the I can stand for Index and it may be substituted for BODMAS, where the O can mean order; it still refers to the same thing).

If the equation has mixed signs e.g. -7 x +5 what must the answer contain?
|
If the equation is mixed then the answer must contain the negative symbol. In this example -7 x +5 = -35. |

If the equation has the same signs e.g. -3 x -9 what must the answer contain?
|
If the equation has the same signs then the answer must be positive. In this example -3 x -9 = +27. Or you could just write 27.

What is meant by a common factor in fractions?
|
Common factors are any numbers that can divide into both the numerator and denominator. See example.

How do you write the fraction 14/63 in its simplest form? |
14/63 is divisible by the common factor of 7 so the answer would be 2/9. This would be the lowest common factor that the two numbers can be reduced to. |

What are equivalent fractions? |
Equivalent fractions are fractions which although they look different they show the same amount. An example would be the following 10/40, 6/24, 5/20, 2/8 these are all equivalents to 1/4. |

What are improper fractions? |
Improper fractions are fractions in which the numerator is greater than the denominator, such as 5/4. |

What is a mixed number? |
A mixed number is a number consisting of an integer and a proper fraction. For example 1 1/4. |
