Imagine being denied the right to marry the person you love? Well, that’s how it feels for over 33,000 same sex couples in Australia. How can these couples ever be able to feel accepted & equal when they can’t even be allowed to marry their loved one? Many people argue that gay marriage is “Unnatural” & “Wrong”. Why should we deny these couples of their rights due to the opposite opinion of others and their individual beliefs? Just because it’s in one person’s religion to only marry someone of the opposite sex doesn't mean everyone else is obligated to have the same views.

2

This is comparable to divorce, just because its against one person's belief doesn't mean you have to comply with that belief & should be down to individual choice. Everyone should be allowed to freely chose who they want to marry, male or female. It’s sad that in 2015 gay marriage is still isn’t legal. How can love been seen as something so wrong? There’s so much negativity & evil in today’s world, love should be promoted and celebrated no matter what sort of love it is. It can only make the world a better place. It doesn't come from a place of hatred and doesn't cause any harm to any other person.

3

Gay marriage doesn’t effect anyone else’s lives, apart from those who are being denied that right. It also comes with some legal complications for these couples as well & doesn’t provide them with the legal stability that comes along with legal marriage that straight couples receive. For example a married couple if they get divorced each person receives 50% of the assets where as gay couples do not. Our own Prime Minister himself doesn't support gay marriage, but that shouldn't be down to him. He doesn't have to believe in it but it doesn't give him the right to be intolerant to someone who does.

4

Australia claims to be a country which allows freedom of expression & tolerance of others but why is something as simple as a marriage between a couple being denied? The true meaning of marriage seems to have been forgotten, and the end of the day all it is really truly about, is two people who love each other coming together in celebration & commitment to the other person as a representation of their love. That sounds pretty harmless right? It’s time Australia steps up to the plate and legalises Gay marriage. If a nation as small as Ireland can make the change so can Australia.
