Astronomy (D)

Science subject that deals with celestial object, space and the physical universe as a whole.

Star (D)

A luminous object made up of gas that can produce its own light and heat by nuclear reactions.

Nuclear Reactions (D)

They occur between two hydrogen atoms, then releasing energy in the form of heat and light.

Life Cycle of a Star:

Formation

Stable Period

Red Giant

Final Phase

Formation (D)

Stars are formed in large gas clouds (nebulae). Nuclear fusion in the starts core causes bright light to be released (star).

Stable Period (D)

Stable star is called a ‘main sequence.’ It uses up all its hydrogen to create light and heat.

Red Giant (D)

When all the hydrogen is used up, the star uses the helium on the surface. It releases more heat and expands. The star becomes huge (red giant).

Final Phase (D)

The death of the star depends on its mass.

What’s the solar system made of?

Made up of the sun and the planets orbiting it.

Criteria for an object to be called a planet:

- must orbit a sun.

- must have enough mass to allow its gravity to pull inward to make it look rounded.

must be big enough to move other object around the same size out of its orbit path.
