What does OSHA stand for?
Occupational Safety and Health Administration
Define OSHA's mission.
- Prevent work related injuries, illnesses and death
- Recognizes issues and enforces rules for workplace safety and health
What does OSHA require employers to do?
- To provide personal protective equipment (gloves, gowns, masks, eyewear)

*All must be furnished in a variety of sizes and be readily available*
Describe items of PPE.
- Gloves, gowns, masks, eye protection, face shield, ear protection
- Respirators, protective resuscitation equipment

Differentiate between 3 types of isolation precautions in terms of when they are used and what the environmental and PPE requirements are for each.
1) VRE - Handwashing; Dedicated equipment, Standard Precautions, Contact Isolation, Limit transport of patients with VRE, Appropriate prescribing of antibiotics

2) MRSA - Gloves, gown; Limit movement and transport of patients with infection; Dedicated equipment; Place patient in private room or with another patient with MRSA

3) C. Diff - WASH HANDS; Clean surfaces in bathrooms, kitchens (use bleach!); Use contact precautions; Clean environmental surfaces; Judicious antibiotic use; Use dedicated equipment
Explain and demonstrate proper use of PPE when working in an isolation room.
In an isolation room, proper use of PPE would include:

- Masks
- Hand washing
- Sterile or clean gown
- Gloves
- Remove and dispose of all items upon exit
