To form the present tense of a regular verb ending in -er?
Drop the -er. Add to the stem the correct personal ending; -e, -es, -e, -ons, -ez, -ent.
Possible meanings of a verb in present tense?
Do, am, are, does, is are not translated into French. Therefore, for example, je danse can mean I dance, or I do dance, or I am dancing. The same applies to the rest of the conjugation.

What are the six uses of the present tense in French?
(1) An action or a state of being at the present time.
(2) Habitual action.
(3) A general truth, something which is permanently true.
(4) Vividness when talking or writing about past events. This is called the historical present.
(5) The near future.
(6) An action or state of being that occurred in the pst and continues up to the present. In English, this tense is the "present perfect."
The verb in the interrogative--est-ce que.
To use a verb in a question, put est-ce que in front of the subject.

Est-ce que vous dansez?
Est-ce que Janine danse?

If the first letter of the subject is a vowel or silent h, drop e in que and add an apostrophe:

Est-ce qu'Albert danse?
Est-ce qu'Hélène danse?
The verb in the interrogative--the inverted form.
To use a verb in a question, there is something else you can do instead of using est-ce que. You can use the inverted form. Move the subject pronoun and put it after the verb, joining it with a hypen:

Dansez-vous?

If the subject pronoun is je, do not use the inverted form. The inverted form with je is used only with certain, special verbs.

In the inverted form, when the last letter of the verb is a vowel in the third person singular, insert -t- in front of il or elle:

Danse-t-il?
Danse-t-elle?

In the inverted form, if the subject is a noun, mention the noun first and use the pronoun of the noun:

Pierre danse-t-il?
Janine danse-t-elle?
Le garçon danse-t-il?
La jeune fille danse-t-elle?
Give the four rules for the verb in the negative-interrogative.
(1) To use a verb in a question that is negative, first use an interrogative form.
(2) Put ne in front of the verb.
(3) Put pas after the verb if you use the est-ce que form.
(4) Or, if you use the inverted form, put pas after the subject pronoun

Est-ce que vous ne dansez pas?
Ne dansez-vous pas?
