a. Episiotomy or lacerations are repaired
b. Provide comfort; clean gown, warm blanket, position of comfort, ice to perineum if sutures or edema present, analgesia as requested and ordered
c. Help parents to explore newborn and initiate breast-feeding if desired and if mother and baby are stable
d. Provide fluids and regular diet as tolerated; consider cultural preferences

4. Outcome is that maternal and newborn well-being are maintained; family unit is supported and participates in birth process as desired
