Liver Blood Deficiency
What is this a description of?

It is a process. It is when blood flow is too slow, too thick or too sticky. Yang deficiency and cold invasion can cause this.
Blood Stagnation (Xue Yu)
What is this a describing?

When blood circulation completely stops (like in the case of a thrombosis or dark red menstrual clots)
Blood Stasis (Yu Xue)
What is the underlying TCM pathology for facial acne?
Acne is blood heat but it's more from the LU. Forehead and mouth is related to constipation. If their acne spreads through the cheeks that is the Lungs. If their acne is worse before the period that is LI and KI.
What pathology are these the basic symptoms of?

Pale face, fatigue, weakness, exhaustion (worse after working), pale tongue body, weak pulse (not thin but weak). The tongue can be normal size if not swollen. To determine the organ, look for basic signs plus the ones below.
Qi Deficiency
This pathology will tend have wetter tongue coating.
What pathology are these the basic symptoms of?

Distending sensation w/ dull pain
Qi Stagnation
What pathology are these the basic symptoms of?

All noises (like screaming) are a result of rebellling with phlegm. So borborygmus is rebelling LI qi. Vomitting is dampness in SP. Wheezing is rebelling LU Icontrol speech) Qi passing through phlegm retention in chest/lungs.
Qi Rebelling
In general, is Qi Rebelling an Excess or Deficiency condition?
Excess
What pathology are these the basic symptoms of?

Loss of consciousness, semiconciousness, pale face, profuse spontaneous sweating, either cold or hot (sticky, dense, yellow) sweating; incontenence of urine and stool, indistinctive pulse (Yin collapse may be fast 150-180bpm; Yang collapse pulse (may be slow).
Qi has a holding function, no Qi everything comes out; Yin and Yang are separating
* There is a temporary prolapse condition if someone is nervours
Qi Collapse
Suddenly fallen down and loose consciousness with up staring eyes, clenched jaw, clenched mouth and teeth and clenched fist and convulsions. No urination, no BM. The body is very tense and tight. Tongue body is stiff and the coating depends on yin or yang closing. Pulse is very wiry. Typical: Grand Mal Seizure. Sometimes happen in developing countries (if they burn coal inside the room, doors/windows closed) - carbon monoxide poisoning.
What pathology are these the basic symptoms of?

The robbers jump in the tomb and die of this syndrome. This is an emergency situtation. They breathed in toxic gas.
Qi Close Tense Syndrome
What pathology and organ do these symptoms describe?

* Shortness of Breath
* Soft and weak voice
* Easily to catch cold
* Spontaneous sweating
Lung Qi Deficiency
What pathology and organ do these symptoms describe?

* Palpitations w/ empty sensation in the heart (not about speed)
* Poor spirit/Shen (sleepy during the daytime)
Heart Qi Deficiency
What pathology and organ do these symptoms describe?

* Chronic diarrhea or loose stool
* May also have fullness (differentiation is before meals and end of the day and prefer touching)
Spleen Qi Deficiency
What pathology and organ do these symptoms describe?

* Weakness or soreness of the lower back and knee joints (not a sharp sciatic pain)
* Profuse urination
* Chronic shortness of breath
Kidney Qi Deficiency
What Qi Pathologies does the Liver NOT have?
Qi Deficiency, Qi Prolapse, Qi Collapse, Qi Close/Tense
What pathology and organ do these symptoms describe?

* Distending sensation or dull pain in chest or suffocating sensation (can't breathe)
* Tongue body and coating are normal
* Pulse is hesitant
* Typical example is emphysema (barrel chest and enlarged intercostal space)
Lung Qi Stagnation
What pathology and organ do these symptoms describe?

* Diminished appetite, distending sensation in the abdomen (incl upr/lwr abdomen)
* Gas and bloating with a fullness of the abdomen
* Tongue body is normal
* Pulse is wiry
NOTE: Food stagnation, sensitive to touch and will also have an odor in the mouth and with BM and a bean curd tongue coating.
Spleen Qi Stagnation
What pathology and organ do these symptoms describe?

* Stress
* Distending sensation or dull pain in the breast [liver and ST channel go through the breast], esp. in hypochondriac region (wandering pain and worse after emotion stimulation)
* Typical example is PMS (breast tenderness, chest tightness...)
* Sighing time to time
* Weeping (with no reason)
* Tongue body and tongue coating are normal but pulse is wiry
Irritability is Liver Fire or Liver Heat (Jiao Wei Sao Yao San; if no heart fire, Sao Yao San only)
Liver Qi Stagnation
What pathology and organ do these symptoms describe?

* Cough (w/ or w/out mucous)
* Asthma
* Wheezing
* Dyspnea
Lung Qi Rebelling
What pathology and organ do these symptoms describe?

* Nausea
* Vomitting
* Hiccup
* Wretching (dry heaves)
* Acid reflux/heartburn
Spleen/Stomach Qi Rebelling
What pathology and organ do these symptoms describe?

* Headache ( or temple throbbing)
* Dizziness and vertigo (severe is head tremor)
* Red eyes (some books say this....but Dr. Wu thinks this is more Liver Fire)
Liver Qi Rebelling
What Qi Pathologies does the Heart NOT have and Why?
Qi Stagnation, Qi Rebelling, Qi Prolapse because this would be more blood related for the Heart. Qi does not have form.
What pathology and organ do these symptoms describe?

* Sinking sensation in their lower abdomen (like they have to hold it)
* Fullness in lower abdomen before meals (also at the end of the day)
* Prolapse of internal organs (including prolapse of ST, Uterus, K, anus)
* HYPOtension (because SP Qi descends)
* Chronic diarrhea (especially watery)
* Tongue body is swollen with teeth marks, white moist/wet coating
* Pulse is weak and DEEP (b/c it's sinking)

NOTE: SP Yang deficiency will have cold symptoms. You can have prolapse and SP Yang deficiency.
Spleen Qi Prolapse

NOTE: * Develops from SP Qi Deficiency so will have SP Qi Deficiency Symptoms +
What pathology and organ do these symptoms describe?

* Miscarriage (especially reoccuring)
* Dribbling incontinence of urine and stool (NOT profuse or frequent)
Kidney Qi Prolapse

* Develops from K Qi Deficiency so will have K Qi Deficiency Symptoms +
What are the Qi Pathologies for Liver?
There are only 2:
- Qi Stagnation & Qi Rebelling
In clinic very difficult to distinquish and it is not necessary b/c it's an emergency situation.
* Stopped breathing
Lung Qi Collapse
In clinic very difficult to distinquish and it is not necessary b/c it's an emergency situation.

ex. Loss of Consciousness &...
* More palpitation
Heart Qi Collapse
In what pathology will you see symptoms appearing ABOVE the waste?
Qi Rebelling
In what pathology will you see symptoms appearing BELOW the waste?
Qi Prolapse
In clinic very difficult to distinquish and it is not necessary b/c it's an emergency situation.

ex. Loss of Consciousness &...
* More incontinence
Kidney Qi Collapse
What Qi Pathologies does the Kidney NOT have and why?
Qi Rebelling, Qi Stagnation because the Kidney is more involved in water metabolism.
