Two parallel chains of command:

Chain of command that begins with the President, through the Sec of Defense and continues through the Sec of Navy and the Commandant of the Marine Corps:

Chain of command the runs from the President, through the Sec od Defense directly to commanders of combatant commands for missions and forces assigned to their commands. Marine Corps component commanders provide operational forces to commanders of combatant commands and other operational commanders as required.

Marine Corps Security Forces(MCSF)

|
These detachments at embassies and consulates around the world are provided by the Marine security gaurd battalion to the Department of State for embassy security. These Marines are currently assigned to 121 diplomatic posts in 115 countries world wide.

Marine Security Gaurd(MSG)
|
|
Consists of the Commandant of the Marine Corps and those staff agencies that advise and assist the Commandant in discharging those responsibilities prescribed by law and higher authority.

HQ, US Marine Corps
|
|
This is the USMCs' principal organization for all mission across the range of military operations. These are balanced, combined-arms forces with organic ground, aviation, and sustainment elemelements. They are flexible, task-organized forces that can respond rapidly to a contingency anywhere in the world and are able to condeuct a variety of missions.

MAGTF
|
|
This provides administrative and logistical support functions for the MEF command element and supported units to enhance the war fighting capabilities of the MEF. The main units are normalli ANGLICO, COMM BN, INTEL BN, Radio BN, and MP support BN.

MEF Headquarters Group(MHG)
|
|
This is tak-organized to support the MAGTF mission by perfomring some or all of the six functions of Marine Corps aviation. This can vary in size and composition from an aviation detachment with specific capabilities to one or more MAW's.

Marine Aircraft Wing, Air Combat Element(ACE)
|
|
This is task organized to conduct ground operations in support of the MAGTF mission. It is normally formed around an infantry organization reinforced with requisite artillery, recon, armor, and engineer forces and can vary in size and composition from a rifle platoon to one or more Marine Divisions.

Marine Division, Ground Combat Element(GCE)
|
|
This is task organized to provide the full range of Combat Service Support functions and capabilities needed to support the continued readiness and sustainability of the MAGTF as a whole.

Marine Logistic Group, Logistic Combat Element(LCE)

|
Responsible for the command and control to the MEU(SOC). Responsible for the command and control, direction, planning, and coordination of air, ground, and logistic operations.
