Can readily and routinely transition between sea bases and expeditionary airfields without loss of capability.




ACE can vary in size from an aviation detachment with specific capabilities to one or more MAWS.

Marine Division, Ground Combat Element (GCE)

Task-organized to conduct ground operations in support of the MAGTF mission


Normally formed around an infantry organization reinforced with requisite artillery, reconnaissance, armor, and engineer forces.




Can vary in size from a rifle platoon to one or more MARDIVS

Marine Logistics Group (MLG), Logistic Combat Element (LCE)

Task-organized to provide full range of Combat Service Support (CSS) functions and capabilities needed to support the continued readiness and sustainability of the MAGTF.

Organization and mission of the Marine Expeditionary Brigades (MEB):


The MEB: is a MAGTF built around a reinforced infantry regiment, an aircraft group, and logistic combat element.

-Employment via amphibious shipping, strategic airlift, marrying with Maritime Prepositioned Force (MPF) assets, or any combination of.

Organization and mission of Marine Expeditionary Unit [Special Operations Capable] (MEU SOC)

The MEU SOC: is the standard forward-deployed Marine expeditionary organization.




o Maintain at: Mediterranean Sea, the western Pacific, and the Indian Ocean/Arabian Gulf region.




o Can be thought of both as a self-contained operating force capable of limited scope and duration, and as a forward deployed, sea-based, rapid crisis response capability to execute a full range of military operations.




o Is organized, trained, and equipped as a self-sustaining, general-purpose expeditionary MAGTF.




o Possesses the capability to conduct operations from other-than-war military operations to amphibious and other conventional operations in support of various contingency requirements.




o Including special maritime special operations such as: 


Reconnaissance and Surveillance


Specialized Demolitions


Tactical Recovery of Aircraft and Personnel (TRAP) 


Seizure/recovery of offshore energy facilities  Seizure/recovery of selected personnel or material 


Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure (VBSS) of vessels 

MEU SOC Command Element (CE):

Mission: to provide command and control to the MEU SOC




o Is responsible for the command and control, direction, planning, and coordination of air, ground, and logistic operations of assigned forces.




o Consisting of a Marine Battalion Landing Team (BLT), a Marine composite squadron, a Marine Combat Logistics Battalion (CLB), and other separate units.




o Contains the following sections: Command Deck (CO, XO, SgtMaj) the Headquarters Commandant, Public Affairs, the Chaplin, Medical, and S-1 2 3 4 and 6 (NO S-5)

MEU SOC Air Combat Element (ACE):

o Is a reinforced helicopter squadron with Transport, Utility, and Attack helicopters




o A detachment of vertical/short take-off and landing (V/STOL) fixed wing attack aircraft.




o Other detachments as required.

MEU SOC Ground Combat Element (GCE):

o A Battalion Landing Team (BLT)




o Is an infantry battalion reinforced with artillery, reconnaissance, engineer, armor, assault amphibian units, and other detachments as required

SPMAGTF Logistic Combat Element (LCE):
Task-organized to meet the specific service support requirements of the SPMAGTF.
