Pitch

The plane nose goes up or down. The pilot adjusts the elevators by pushing the wheel in or out.

Roll

The plane wings go up or down. The pilot turns the ailerons by turning the wheel right or left.

Yaw

The plane turns right or left. The pilot uses foot pedals and if she/he pushes down the left pedal the plane goes right, also if she/he pushes down the right pedal the plane goes left.

Thrust

The pilot pushes the throttle forward to move faster and pulls it back to go slower. Similar to a jet engine and propeller.

Lift

To move up in air. The pilot controls the flaps.

Pressure

A force against an object.

Fluid

Something that flows easy, and takes the shape of its container.

Ailerons

The flaps on the wings that control roll.

Rudder

The flap on the vertical stabilizer that controls yaw.

Elevators

The flaps on the horizontal stabilizer that control pitch.

Drag

How much air resistance something has.

Bernoulli's Principle

The wind on the top of the wing is moving faster than the wind below the wing so the plane is forced upward which is lift.

Helium

A gas that is lighter than air.

Lighter than air

Helium, anything that floats in the air.

Stationary

To not move and stand still.

Gravity

A force that pulls you toward the earth.

Aerodynamic

Something shaped to cut through the air easily when it’s moving.

Contracion

When something becomes either smaller, shorter or tighter.

Expansion

To get bigger or enlarge.

Spacecraft

A vehicle used for traveling in space.

Aircraft

A airplane, helicopter, or other machine capable of flight.

Propulsion

A force that pushes an object forward.

Properties of fluids

1. Air Flows

2. Air Takes up space

3. Air is a fluid

4. Hot Fluids are less dense

5. Cold Fluids Contract

6. Hot air takes up more space

7. Cold air takes up less space

8. Fluids take shape of the container they're in.

9. Air can exert pressure

10. Hot Fluids expand

11. Cold Air are more dense

Bernoulli's Principle Experiment

Blow a stream of air through a paper tent see what happens, than blow harder and observe.

observation: The sides come closer together.
