The Marine Corps was reorganized into the Fleet Marine Force. The Marine Corps Equipment Board was established in Quantico VA.

1965
Marines landed in South Vietnam, Which committed the Marine Corps the longest war in it history. A pacification program was designed to win the support of the local populace and in response to an attempted coup of the local government. Marines also landed in the Dominican Republic to evacuate and protect US citizens. Marines formed the core of a multinational force that quickly restored peace.
1982
Marines Deployed to Lebanon as part of a multinational peacekeeping force in an effort to restore peace and order to this war-torn country.

Iraqi Insurgents in Falluja ambushed a convoy containing 4 American private military contractors from Blackwater.

Coalition Forces fought the first battle of Falluja, "Operation Vigilant Resolve", to capture or kill insurgent elements considered responsible for the deaths of the Blackwater Security Team. Iraqi government requested that control of the city be turned over to an Iraqi -run local security force which stockpiled weapons and built complex defenses across the city
