The combining form OX- indicates the presence of oxygen: anoxia, hypoxia, hypoxemia, and so forth. In a few words, OXY- means rapid: oxylalia, oxytocic. Oxycephalous denotes a head that is pointed and cone-like. In some words OXY- has the meaning of acid: oxyphil. In a few words, OXY- has the meaning of sharp: oxyphonia means an abnormally sharp sound to the voice.
