When should Diagnosti waxing occur (ideally)?
-Ideally, after control-phase treatment, immediately prior to initiating fixed prost. TX or designing RPD's
What is the indication of DX waxing at UNC or practice
-Cases involve indrect restoration (onlay, crown, FPD or RPD)
-Case where significant alterations in contour or involve demanding restorative/esthetic results
What is the rationale for DX waxing?
-Develop, preoperatively, the intended occlusal and axial contours of final restoration or articulated DX casts
What is the purpose of DX wax?
-Develop occlusal scheme
-Determine if preparation alteration is required
-Provide template for dental lab
-Evaulate reductions with thermoplastic index
-Fabricate provisionals with thermoplastic index
-MOCK preps
What is the DX waxing?
-Roadmap that directs you and lab technician how to restore pt.
-Pre-treatment guide to help determine wheter you can restore patient
-Show pt. your proposed final treatment
What are the advantages of DX waxing?
-Roadmap
-Pre-TX guide
-Proposed final TX
Why is it important not to add wax to the lingual of the anterior teeth?
-Anterior teeth will not occlude correctly.
Why is it important to soak your cast prior to duplicating it?
-Keep alginate from sticking to the cast
What is the advantage of Thermoplastic shim?
-Less expense
-Clear so you can judge tooth reduction
-Very accurate for multi-unit prostheses (FPDs)

Does the crown type impact the cement I select?
-If crown is translucent, color of cement will affect the final shade, this is crown material specific
What is the rationale in adjusting the proximal contact from the gingival aspect towards the incisal?
-As you take from the gingival toward the incisal the crown will sit better
Why use black fit checker for an all-ceramic crown?
All ceramic crown is white so using a black fit checker will help to help if contact occurs
What is the rationale behind temporarily cementing a crown?
-Trial cements can be used to confirm final appearance
What type of cement (auto cure, light cure, dual) should be used?
Setting results from light cured and self cured cements increase the fracture resistance of ceramic materials that can be etched and silanated
Describe a quick procedure of All ceramic delivery right before cementation?
-Inspect intaglio surface and seats on die
-Remove provisional, pumice, seat crown
-Adjust proximal contacts, margins, verify internal fit (black GC fit checker)
-Adjust occlusion and contours
-Polish crown with Dialite porcelain (BPG)
Cementation of All-ceramic crown?
-Place in acetone ultrasonic
-If crown etchable (retract tissue, place Mylar strip, etch tooth, Rinse and dry, apply bonding agent and cure)
-Crown not etchable (Sandblast intaglio surface w/ 50 um Al2O3).
-Tack crown in place with small curing tip and keep pressure on crown
-Remove XS cement, Floss interproximal, Light cure completely
-Scalpel to remove interproximal XS
It is acceptable to use cement systems with try-in water soluble cement pasts (for composite cement systems) T/F
True
What are crowns that can and can NOT be etched?
-Etchable: Feldspathic porcelains, IPS Empress (Leucite)
-Non-etchable: Alumina or Zirconia core
When adjusting occlusion on an All-Ceramic crown what is needs to be done?
-Cement crown in place with GC fit checker (black)
Inform patients of post cementation sensitivity due to?
-Ass. with freshly prep/etched dentin
-Remnants of etching acid
-Low pH of certain cements
-Increase liquie to power ratio of GI cemetns
-Over etching, desiccation (collapse of dentinal tubules)
If temporarily cementing all-ceramic crowns (do not do what)?
-DO NOT use cement containing eugenol as it inhibits polymerization of the resin
-If eugenol cement was used, etching w/ 37% Phosphoric acid after cleaning w/ pumice (best way to remove ZOE)
You must be cautious when using Panavia 21 cement system, WHY?
-Phosphonate molecule is sensitive to O2 and its with Ca of tooth
-Requires air barrier coating (at margins) to allow full set of cement
Silane applicaiton to intaglio surface an increase the ceramic-resin cement bond by 10% (T/F)
False: 20%
