Photoshop: 3 reasons to use an adjustment layer?
o Create/ utilize a mask
o Reduce Opacity of a layer
o Throw-away that adjustment with out affecting other parts of an image
o Copy/paste adjustment onto another image in another file
o Ability to modify the adjustment layer or a specific area on a photograph

Selection Tools – 3 main areas:
1. Marquis affects CONSTRAST – select a specific area, for example, use shift key and use marquis as a constraint tool; therefore, the marquis rectangle after using shift key will change to a marquis square (likewise, the ellipse shape after using shift key will change to a circle).
2. Lasso affects SHAPE – Free form Lasso and Polygon and Magnetic Lasso.
3. Magic Wand Tool affects COLOR – selection is based on the color of the area.

Layer Mask:
if you paint with a black layer mask it will hide the adjustment; whereas, if you paint with a white layer mask it will reveal the adjustment.
Sharpening Image:
: What does sharpening really do? Increases the contrast along the edges of the image wherever Photoshop detects that there is a contrast difference.
Smart Sharpen: There are 2 main parameters.
o 1. How much contrast is applied? As you increase the number more contrast is applied.
o 2. Radius: How wide is the edge? If the edge is too wide, then there is a Halo Effect; therefore, you must reduce the radius.
Color Balance:
does not affect lightness and darkness, but affects the color of the image (i.e., hue saturation, selective color, color balance, photo filter-by applying an overall color affect))
Printing Strategies
What resolution do we need when we print an image?
240 pixels per inch)
Re-sampling an image means changing the number of pixels
* add pixels by using a higher number
or delete pixels by using a lower number..
If you add pixels the pixels are made-up by Photoshop by guessing, so this is not a good way to use re-sampling. But if you need a photo smaller in order to send it email, then re-sampling may work well
When looking at a Kelvin Scale the Blue represents the High Temperature and the Red represents the Low Temperature
Daylight on a Kelvin scale is 5,000-6,000 degrees.
3 Characteristics of the flash are:
o Range – Brightness 6 – 60 feet or more…
o Spread – Angle/Diffusion – helps wide angle view.
o Power – Controls both the range and spread.
How does the color of the flash compare with the color of daylight?
Answer: It is bluer.)
The image process controls with the computer are
contrast and brightness.
In the darkroom, the local controls for processing an image are:
*Burning (darkening) and *Dodging (lightening).
