a system of providing medications for persons with TB infection in which the client is monitored to ensure that the medication is taken and to maximize adherence to the treatment.
DOT directly observed therapy
a virus that attacks the genital sand sacral nerve. Infection is characterized by painful lesions that present as vesicles and progress to ulcerations on the male and female genitals, buttocks, or upper thighs.
genital herpes
a STD caused by a bacterium, that results in inflammation of the urethra and cervix and dysuria, or may result in no symptoms.
gonorrhea

bacterial. tx with antibiotics (some forms are developing resistance)
virus that is transmitted by fecal-oral route. Clinical course ranges from mild to severe and often requires prolonged convalescence. The onset is usually characterized by acute fever, nausea, lack of appetite, malaise, and abd discomfort, followed after several days by jaundice.
HAV - Hep A Virus
virus that is transmitted through exposure to blood and body fluids. This virus infection may present with such mild symptoms that it goes unrecognized. It is the most common chronic blood-borne infection in the US.
HCV - Hep C Virus
virus that is transmitted through exposure to blood and body fluids. Infections result in a clinical picture that ranges form self-limited acute infection to fulminant hep or hep carcinoma possibly leading to death.
HBV - Hep B Virus

*can survive @ room temp for at least 1 week
*vaccine available
*employers can be mandated to offer
a lab procedure used to detect a specific virus. i.e. ELISA
HIV antibody test, then western blot confirms it.

HPV - human papillomavirus

*residents and staff of long-term care facilites, jails, and prisons
*children younger than 4

*all persons over 4 years with no risk factors for TB

*for Mantoux test, inject 0.1mL containing 5 units
*read rxn 48-72 hrs after
*measure only induration
