Character Profiles - Sarah

-Traumatic past with her husband and daughter dying.


-Seems weak and feminine but becomes determined so seems dominant instead, she is likeable.


-Finds dying Beth with Juno's necklace from her own husband so knows Juno slept with her husband behind her back.


-Takes pills so is mentally unstable


-Final girl as she is the 'innocent' one and is first to see the crawlers.

-Dominant as she is the one that sorted out the entire trip.


-First to attack Crawlers so she's masculine.


-Seems self absorbed due to not telling the others about being the first to explore this cave (unlike-able).

-Mother figure of the group and feminine.


-First to try and calm the situation down.


-Juno stabs her through the neck and leaves her to die by herself.


-Sarah finds her and manages to tell her Juno did it and slept with her husband.

Character Profiles - Sam

-Not dominant, Rebecca's younger sister.


-Broke rule of not splitting up, tries to cross a gap and a crawler slits her throat


-She's a useful character as she is the doctor of the group and finds that the crawlers are blind and have very good hearing.

-Very protective, especially over Sam. Takes every precaution.


-As Sam dies Rebecca doesn't leave her and dies as well as a result.


-Not dominant but isn't weak


-Confrontational and wants to leave Sarah behind to save herself, Sam and Juno.

-First to break the rule of leaving the group and runs off, as a consequence she falls down a hole and breaks her leg.


-Group have to leave her as the crawlers drag her off.


-Has trouble following instructions from Juno (Holly is her Protoge) which makes her unlike-able.


-Brings excitement to the group.

-Almost like bats as they are blind and have incredible hearing as well as being bale to hand onto any surface.

Preperation for the filming of The Decent

They learned how to climb, cave and white water raft. Holly's actress cut her hair off and Rebecca's actress wrote a diary in the style of her character.

Character Profiles - Arthur Kipps

Masculine and feminine due to being a single dad, wife dies in childbirth. Dominant as he tells others what is needed. He's likeable due to empathy from the audience. Becomes very forceful on finding out what is happening. He tries to save his son Joseph but both die and are reunited with their wife/mother.

Character Profiles - Samuel Daily

Masculine and rich. He's stubborn and acts like the rumours are not true at all which puts Joseph in danger, this makes him unlike-able but he then tried to help Kipps.

Character Profiles - Elizabeth Daily

Very feminine and motherly, lost her son so instead baby's 2 small dogs. Her dead son talks through her to tell her what the woman in black is making them do. She tells Kipps about what is happening and is likeable because of this.

Character Profiles - Jennet (Woman in Black)

Very dominant as she makes children kill themselves. Her sister took her son away from her and let him drown in the marsh so she wants revenge. Very unlike-able due to the unnecessary killings. Jennet hung herself in her dead sons room.

Character Profiles - Jerome

Is dominant as he keeps his daughter locked up to keep her safe but is not s dominant as Kipps. Quiet character and tells Kipps to leave for everyone's sake, Kipps doesn't listen and Jerome's daughter Lucy is killed by the Woman in Black.

Character Profiles - Eel Marsh House

Dominant place within the film as it is where the entire narrative stems from. Kipps tries to reunite the dead boy with Jennet in the house but Jennets ghost will never forgive or forget. House will always be haunted.

Small, remote village (Gifford) in the North East. Cut off and alone, creates feeling of hopelessness.
