With support from the German Government, a group of small film companies were brought together just outside Berlin to form the UFA. The idea was to help support the German World war one effort by producing propaganda films. After the defeat of the German military, the UFA studios were sold in 1918 to private investors. At the height of UFA production, the facilities were the best in all of Europe, rivaling even the major studios in Hollywood.
