Class: Sympathomimetic

Description: Dopamine is a naturally occurring catecholamine that:
1)increases cardiac output without appreciably increasing myocardial oxygen consumption
2) Maintains renal and mesenteric blood flow while inducing vasoconstriction and increasing systolic blood pressure

Indications: Non-hypovolemic hypotension (70 to 100 mmHg) and cardiogenic shock

Contra-Indications: Ventricular Fibrillation, tachydysrythmias

Side Effects: Hypotension, Angina Pain.

Doage/Route:
1) Dilate renal/mesenteric Arteries (Alpha 2 effects) 2--5 mcg/kg/min
2) Increase cardiac output (beta 1 effects) 10 mcg/kg/min
3) Cause systemic vasoconstriction in Anaphylaxis Alpha 1 effects) 20 mcg/kg/min
Heparin
Class: Anticoagulant

Description: Heparin is a rapid-onset anticoagulant that enhances the effects of antithrombin III and blocks the conversion of prothrombin to thrombin and fibrinogen to fibren.

Indications: To prevent thrombus formation in acute MI.

Contra-Indications: shock, active bleeding or recent eye, brain, or spinal surgery.

Side Effects: Hypertension, bronchoconstriction

Dosage/Route:
STEMI: 60 units/kg up to 4,000 units
NSTEMI: 60 to 70 units/kg up to 5,000 units
Etomidate
(Amidate)
Class: Hypnotic

Description: Etomidate is an ultra-short acting non-barbiturate hypnotic with no analgesic effects and limited cardiovascular and respiratory effects.

Indications: To induce sedation for RSI

Contra-Indications: Hypersensitivity

Side Effects: Eye movements, tonic movements.

Dosage/Route: 0.1 to 0.3 mg/kg IV over 15-30 sec
MAX 20mg
Nitrous Oxide
(Nitronox)
Class: Analgesic Gas

Description: Nitrous Oxide is a self-administered analgesic gas composed of 50% O2 and 50% Nitrous Oxide. Its effects last only 2-5 minutes after administration ceases.

Indications: Musculoskeletal, burn, and ischemic chest pain and severe anxiety (including hyperventilation)

Contraindications: pneumothorax, impaired mental status, drug intoxication

Side Effects: Dizziness, altered mental status, nausea

Dosage: Self administered inhalation until pain is relieved or pt drops mask.
Succinylcholine
Class: Depolarizing Neuromuscular Blocker

Description: ultra-short acting depolarizing neuromuscular blocker.

Indications: Facilitated endotracheal intubation

Contraindications: penetrating eye injury, hypersensitivity.

Side Effects: excessive salivation, bradycardia, tachycardia.

Dosage/Route: 1 to 1.5 mg/kg IV/IM
Amyl Nitrite
Class: Vasodilator

Description: short-acting vasodilator similar to Nitroglycerin. Binds with hemoglobin to help biodegrade cyanide

Indications: as an initial adjunct antidote in the treatment of acute cyanide poisoning

Contra-Indications: none for acute cyanide poisoning.

Side Effects: Respiratory depression, tachycardia.

Dosage/Route: inhale 0.3ml ampule/min (crushed) until sodium nitrate infusion is ready
