Aspirin
AKA: "ASA"
Class: Anti-coagulant, anti-inflamatory, Analgesic.

Pharmacology: Blocks platelet aggregation and clot forming. Anti-inflammatory, Analgesic.

Indications: Symptoms suggestive of an AMI

Contraindications: Bleeding disorder, hemorrhagic stroke, hx of asthma

Side Effects: wheezing, nausea, vomiting

Dosage: 160-325 mg PO
Morphine
Class: Narcotic Analgesic
Pharmacology: bonds with opiate receptors in CNS--altering both perception and emotional response to pain. CARDIAC: - myocardial O2 consumption, - diastolic BP, - cardiac workload, + venous capacity thereby - preload

Indications: Chest pain if no relief with 3 ntg. Pulmonary Edema, Severe extremity pain, back and neck pain that requires sedation/pain relief to ensure pt doesn't move.

Contraindications: Head Injury, bradycardia, hypotension

Side effects: Respiratory depression, nausea if admin too quickly. Narcan will reverse.

Dosage: IV ONLY! 2mg -- 5mg repeat every 5 minutes as needed.
BURNS: 0.1mg/kg slow IVP repeat once if needed
MAX DOSE: 0.2mg/kg

Supplied: 2mg/mL ampule, or 10mg/ML ampule, or 10mg/ml preload
Narcan
Naloxone Hydrochloride
Class: Narcotic Antagonist
Pharmacology: Narcotic antagonist which competitively binds to narcotic sites, reverses respiratory depression secondary to opiate drugs and synthetic analgesics

Indications: narcotic OD or suspected narcotic OD

Contra: None

Side Effects: Instant withdrawal symptoms including violence. If drugs last longer than narcan, they will slip back into coma.

Dosage: 0.4mg -- 2.0 mg IV/IM/IO Titrated to respiratory status. repeat if needed every 3 min.

Supplied: 1mg/mL vial or preload, 2mg/ML vial or preload, or 10mg/mL vial
Glucagon
Class: Hormone, Anti-Hypoglycemic
Pharmacology: a natural hormone that causes stored glycogen in the liver to turn into glucose in the blood. Onset of action is 5-20 minutes.

Indications: hypoglycemia when IV access is unobtainable. Beta blocker OD

Contraindications: Hypersensitivity

Side Effects: will precipitate with NS, nausea and vomiting may occur on awakening. Short acting so insist on pt transport.

Dosage: Hypoglycemia -- 1.0 unit IM/IV every 20 minutes up to 3 units
Beta Blocker OD: 0.5 units/kg IM/IV

Supplied: 1 unit powder and 1cc dilutant
Midazolam
"Versed"
Class: Anti-convulsant, Benzodiazepine, tranquilizer

Pharmacology: Potent short term CNS depressant and amnesic. onset in 60-90 seconds and lasts 1-2 hours

Indications: Generalized seizures. Sedation prior to intubation or cardioversion. Chemical restraint.

Contraindications: Hypotension, pregnancy, narcotic OD

Side Effects: Amnesia, respiratory depression

Dosage: 1mg -- 2.5mg. May repeat in 1mg increments prn.
MAX Dose 0.1mg/kg

Supplied: 1mg/mL vial or 5mg/mL vial
