What is Feudalism?
A system of land ownership and a rigid class-
based system
What was the role of peasants and why was it important?
The role of the peasannts was to farm the land. If peasants and farmers did not farm the land then there would be no crops and no food because no one farmed the land.
What are the four differnet types of kami?
1.Those related to naturl objects and creatures, from "food to rivers to rocks."
2. Guardian Kami of particular areas and clans.
3.Exceptional people, including all but the last of emperors.
4.Abstract creative forces-love, peace, honor.
What makes Shinto belief systems uniqe?
Shinto beliefs honor no founder, has no sacred scriptures, and follows no body of religous "rules."
What are the four affirimations of Shintoism?
1.Tradition and family: The family is seen as the main mechanism by which traditions are preserved. their main celebrations relate to birth nd marriage.
2. love of nature: Nature is sacred; to be in contact with nature is to be close to the gods. Natural objects are worsipped as sacred spirits.
3.Physicl cleanliness: Followers of Shinto take baths, wash their hands, and rinse out their mouth often.
4."Matsuri": The worship and honor given to the kami and ancestral spirits.
