Pathogenesis
localizes in WBC producing tissues (immunodeficiency). There are periods of latency and relapse.
Clinical Signs
Any opportunistic infection. Recurrent (oral)
refractory (GIT)
Cat becomes cachexic (wastes away)
Lab
In house test.
Can't differentiate from vaccine
(will give false positive)
Tx
None for FIV
Treat opportunistic infection but it will reoccur.
DO NOT allow infected cats to bite
Px
Fatal
will die from infection eventually
Prevention
Vaccine available
keep cats indoors so they can't be bitten by infected cats.
